ELLENSBURG — The Central Washington University Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) will host two local indie-rock bands at 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release. The performances will be held in the SURC Pit and are free and open to the public.
Singer-songwriter and guitarist Kyle Smeback will perform first at 6 p.m. followed by Paper Rings, a dance-rock band.
For the past six years Smeback, a CWU senior, has been writing his own lyrics and melodies. He’s performed at venues throughout the region for more than a year and recorded his first demo album in December 2009. Soon, Smeback hopes to record a studio album.
Smeback describes his style as being influenced by acoustic artists such as Jack Johnson, Ben Harper and Dave Matthews.
Paper Rings, a of four siblings, originally from Camas, has been together for three years. The band released its self-titled album in the fall of 2008.
CWU student Tommy Phelan plays the drums, Olga sings and plays guitar, Tim plays guitar and Alex plays the keyboard.
Paper Rings is in the process of writing its second album. The group’s sound features dance-infused rhythms and pop-rock melodies.
Campus Activities is sponsoring both performances Tuesday evening.
