ELLENSBURG — A climb up Mount Rainier to honor law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty took an unexpected turn for three Ellensburg men on Saturday when they came across a climber who fell 30 feet into a crevasse at about 12,500 feet.
At about 5:30 a.m. a man who was part of a rope team climbing ahead of the Ellensburg team broke through a snow bridge and fell.
“It was just about the time we reached 12,500 feet,” said Officer Marc McPherson of the Central Washington University Police Department. “We overheard through the radio that there had been an accident.” (READ MORE….)
