I still can’t believe it only cost me $100.
My favorite piece of art in my personal “collection” was purchased for this tiny sum at a bachelor of fine arts senior group exhibit at Ohio University. Prior to the show, I had seen the art hanging in a local restaurant — OK, bar/restaurant — an important detail we will revisit in a moment. When I wandered into the campus gallery weeks later and unexpectedly saw her work, I knew I had to take a piece home. Jenny (who remains semi-anonymous since in my youthful naivet I neglected to write down her last name) generously sold me a multimedia piece that I refer to as the “Boston Tea Party.” Incorporating text, printed elements, upholstery scraps and layered paint, it has hung on a wall in every space I’ve lived.
