Central Washington University’s Museum of Culture & Environment is seeking submissions—stories, shoes, and/or artwork—for the exhibit In My Shoes: Stories about Life, Told from the Bottom Up. This exhibit will feature personal stories of people living in the Kittitas Valley, told through the medium of shoes.

Shoes are with us nearly every day of our lives. They do more than protect our feet—their worn-out soles and scuff-marks are evidence of life’s journeys. Our shoes tell stories, and the museum wants to share these stories.

In My Shoes will accompany Journey Stories, a traveling exhibit on loan from the Smithsonian Institution that will be on display from January 28 until June 3, 2012.

If you are interested in participating, your submissions should include:

• Your story about a journey, told as a memoir, poem, song, or other literary form;

• Shoes, either a pair you have worn or an artist’s rendering of shoes in any medium; and

• A three-inch self portrait (optional).

You may submit your entry either electronically, by e-mailing, or deliver it to the museum in Dean Hall 122, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Entries must be submitted no later than January 14, 2012.
