For the past three years, the Central Washington University Collegiate Sport Club program has partnered with USBank to award scholarships to male and female student athletes each month throughout the academic year. This scholarship recognizes student athletes for their outstanding achievements within their respective clubs, as well as on and off of the field.
Each recipient receives a $200 scholarship provided by USBank, to help with educational costs.
September awards went to Kelsey Disbrow and Brett Lund. Disbrow excelled as a member of the Women’s Rugby Club this fall, demonstrating impressive speed and scoring capabilities. Lund stood out as a member of the CWU Wake Sports Club, helping the team qualify for the national championship slated for the spring of 2012.
Recipients for October were Patrick Blair and Breanne Matson. Blair is a member of the Men’s Rugby Club and was named to the All-Tournament Team and as the Northwest Collegiate Rugby Conference 7s Tournament MVP. Matson earned her award as a result of her contributions and leadership as the CWU Bowling Club president, and lead the club as a talented bowler with an average of 191 and game high of 247.
November scholarship winners were Andrew Yoder and Shannon Bedell. Yoders accomplishments as a keeper with the Men’s Soccer Club were key to the club’s success earning impressive victories this fall. Bedell was recognized for her performance in the Equestrian Club, leading CWU with five first-place awards at three different shows, including Central’s show at Red Hawk Ranch in Thorp.
All Collegiate Sport Clubs student athletes are eligible and can be nominated by their teammates, coaches, or members of the Collegiate Sport Club staff. Recipients are chosen by Corey Sinclair, Collegiate Sport Club coordinator, based on performance and leadership on and off the field.
