CWU grad teaching music to elementary students in China | Kitsap Sun

Gus Labayen comes by his musical talents naturally. His father, Louis, is founder and artistic director of the Gig Harbor Peninsula Orchestra, now in its sixth season.

Gus Labayen, 23, is a senior at Central Washington University, majoring in piano performance.

The Labayens moved to Gig Harbor when Gus was in the fifth grade. He attended Kopachuck Middle School and graduated from Gig Harbor High School.

He began studying piano at age 9, and he’s spending the final term of his undergraduate career teaching the instrument to first- and second-graders at Hou Kong Premier School in Macau.

Gus Labayen is teaching piano classes at Hou Kong Premier School in Macau while working on a music degree from Central Washington University.
