Central Washington University alumna Christine Day, the chief executive officer of lululemon athletica, will be the keynote speaker at Central Washington University’s 121st commencement on Saturday, June 9, at Tomlinson Stadium.
Day will address graduates from the College of Education and Professional Studies and College of Business at 9:30 a.m., and those from the College of Arts and Humanities, College of the Sciences, and Interdisciplinary and Individual Study majors at 2:00 p.m.
Known for her personal motto, “The question isn’t who is going to let me, it’s who is going to stop me,” the theme of Day’s address is “creating a future that would otherwise not exist, lessons on leadership.”
In 2008, Day became CEO of lululemon athletica, a yoga-inspired athletic apparel company based in Vancouver, British Columbia. She is credited with spearheading the company’s remarkable national and international expansion.
Last year, Day, became the first woman named chief executive officer of the year by the Toronto Globe and Mail’s Report on Business magazine. The Canadian Marketing Association also named her Canada’s 2011 Marketer of the Year.
Day, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration at CWU in 1984, is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.
Before joining lululemon athletica, Day served for 20 years with Starbucks, where she was president of the Asia Pacific Group of Starbucks Coffee International.
